commit a sex act in his own home for fear it might
be discovered. He is afraid to feel free in other peo-
ple’s establishments—again for the same overndmg
reason. His fear of detection.

Perversely, he feels that in a toilet, a turkish bath,
a park or any similar place, he possesses anonym-
ity. He believes he will not be recognized, will never
be seen again.

Who is to say which is more pathetic—the out-
landish “drag queen” who affects thick make-up,
women’s skirts and high heels, or the “closet queen”
who, in a much more shocking fashion, flaunts his
perversion?
