He takes pride in the fact that he’s never “gone all
the way.” That is, he has never reciprocated in oral
intercourse, the most favored form of sex among
deviates. Having picked up the jargon of the “gay
world” he prefers to think of himself as ““passive.”

Psychiatrists disagree with this theory. They see
no difference between a hustler and an active homo-
sexual nor a line that separates the passive member
in sex play from the active partner. As a matter of
fact, the tendency today is to ignore the words “*pas-
sive” and “active.” _

Writes Donald Webster Cory, one of the country’s
leading authorities on homosexuality and author of
the best-seller, 7he Homosexual in America:

“Let us abandon forever the confusing and absurd
concepts of “active” and ‘passive” homosexuals.
For if by passive the meaning is to imply that the
person is playing a substitute female role, then re
ceptor is more accurate and precise terminology.
To speak of a person as being the active homosex-
ual partner when he is an exclusive invertor is to
hopelessly compound an already confusing subject.
