library. The major dissatisfaction centers upon inadequacy
of the book collection, rather than upon deficiencies in li-
brary policy or personnel. Only a small proportion of re-
corded complaints dealt with the inadequacy of library per-
sonnel. These studies also indicate that the general public has
little knowledge about the public library and its services and
seems to regard the public library as a fine thing for a com-
munity to have—for other people to use.
