THE FASCINATION OF NUMBERS

(¢) Continue writing numbers consecutively in a diag-

onal line sloping upwards from the previous number
and to the right-hand side of the square. When the
last column on the right-hand side is reached, the
next highest number is to be written in the extreme
left-hand column as if it followed immediately after
the right-hand column, and the process is continued,
thus:

 

(d) When a sub-square next in line is reached but has

already been filled, the ‘path’ of the numbers drops
to the sub-square next below and then begins to
climb diagonally again from that point. When the
top row is reached, the next number is written in the
bottom row as if it followed immediately above the
top row. Following these rules gives the following
complete square where 25 integers are used.
