sexes proved 16 animals to be male pseudo-
hermafrodites,q1 female pseudohermafrodite and 8
hermafrodites.

2.,KARYOLOGICAL ANAIYSIS.In the karyological anal
ysis made from leucocytes the chromosomes were
counted in every animal in 42 <cells on the
average. The number of the examined cells in
individual animals varied between 22 and 66 cells
/95% of the examined cells/.There were 32 /3%/
cells with 37 chromosomes, 14 /1.33%/ with 36
chromosomes,in 1 /0.09%/ cell there were only 35
chromosomes and in 2 /0.18%/ less than 35 chromo-
somes.More than 38 chromosomes were found in a
few cells,that is 39 chromosomes in 3% and 40 in
2 cells.Idiograms were constructed from 235 cells
The average number of examined idiograms in every
animal was 9.4 and it was never lower than 7.

There were no karyotype abnormalities in 221
idiograms.In 14 coming from two different animals
there were only 37 chromosomes, but this monosomy
never affected the same pair of chromosomes. The
karyotypes in all +the examined animals were
normal with XX heterochromosomes.

DISCUSSION. Chromosome Y is thought to be the
development determinant of the male gonad.Ilts in-
fluence 1in men is so strong that even in cases
with heterochromosomes ZXXXY +their phenotype is
male,but we never succeeded in finding chromosome
Y in animals with testicular structure and male
sex behaviour.Although chromosome Y is generally
held to be the male sex determinant /12/ some
workers assume that the deletions and mutations
both in Y-or X-chromosomes may be the cause of
congenital malformations of the gonads /13/. Our
studies seem to confirm this opinion.
