Vle CONG. INTERN. REPROD. ANIM. INSEM. ARTIF., PARIS, 1968, VOL. I mitoses showed that the bull had 60,XX/60,XY (75%/25%) and the free- martin 60,XX/60,XY (82.5%/17,5%). Fifty fibroblast mitoses contained sex chromosomes which were similar to the phenotype. A count of loo leucocyte mitoses when the bull was 1 year old showed that it had 60,XX/60,XY (80%/20%). The sperm examinations were carried out during a period of 6 weeks in February/March, 1968. Once a week two ejaculates were collected in an artificial vagina, once three ejaculates were collected because the first one seemed to be incomplete. All ejaculates were included in the examination. The bull had not previously been used for collection of semen or natural covering. A general examination of the sperm was carried out, including volume, colour, consistency, impurities, pH, concentration and motility. The concentration was measured photo- electrically. From every ejaculate atleast two Indian ink preparatirns were made. The abnormal sperms were classified according to Blom (1950). From each of the 13 ejaculates looo sperms, distributed on at least two slides, were analysed. Sperm concentration and motility showed a distinct improvement during the period of examination. All the investigated characteristics were normal. Sperm morphology is described in Table 1. The number of primary abnormalities was almost constant from one ejaculate to the other. On average, the primary abnormalities in 13 ejaculates consti- tuted 3.16% which is less than the normal value (4.65%). None of the ejaculates showed considerable deviations from the values described by Blom (1950). The number of secondary abnormalities had a tendency to decrease during the period of examination. In some ejaculates the number of sperms with distal droplet and sperms with bent tail were very large. As these sperm abnormalities were below the normal values in other ejaculates, they are presumabiy of no importance to the judgment. Conclusion An andrological examination of a Jersey bull with 80% XX leucocyte mitoses showed a normal spermiogram and normal sexual organs. Thus, the 887
