After reading selected chapters in these books, students are asked to pres-
ent in class a case study of a country that was impacted by the Washington
Consensus reforms (positively and negatively). Students should answer the
following questions:

1. What was the Washington Consensus?

2. What were the policy recommendations made by the consensus for
the country?

3. Why were some of the recommendations unsuccessful or successful
in that country?

4. How was Latin America as a region specifically affected by the

consensus?

Students are then asked to View archives of different newspapers and jour—
nals that reported on the Argentinian crisis. Use the following sources:

Culminating Activity

Students divide into two groups and use these sources as well as their un—
derstanding of exchange-rate markets and concepts around capital flight to
complete a culminating activity.
