If your school is in a different city, change the topic as is appropriate.) Overview This unit is an introductory exploration of the concepts of migration and immigration in New York City. It leads the students on a scavenger—hunt research study of New York City via searches on the web and walks along city streets. Students will research different boroughs and neighborhoods and their changing demographics over time. Optional Preparatory Activity 8.5.1 Students would be asked to describe the neighborhood of the school and would be guided through the activity by the teacher. (See below for a list of possible aspects of the neighborhood to describe.) This activity would prepare the students for their own scavenger hunt in the subsequent activ— ity.
