Empowering Global Citizens 3. Students will learn about the types of people and things that people show respect for in different parts of the world. 4. Students will practice interacting with other students from different parts of the world. Overview Students begin by extrapolating cultural values from the values they see demonstrated in the actions of characters in two novels, and then they try to determine the cultural values present in their own complex identities. They then share the values that they’ve identified with classmates in another part of the world through a discussion of respect (e.g., who it is given to, how it is given, and why). At the end of the unit, the students create a video showing how to properly greet different types of people in different countries. 189
