Summer Reading Discussion

The students discuss their summer reading book in light of the simulation
above. The summer reading book should be a novel about the American
Revolution, such as My Brat/oer Sam is Dead, by James Lincoln Collier;
Chains, by Laurie Halse Anderson; or Due! in t/oe Wilderness, by Karin
Clafford Farley. They can also refer to johnny Tremain, which they read in
the previous grade. They can talk about the perspectives of the Loyalists
and the Patriots in each of the stories and about how their views reflect the
structures that the students played out in the simulation.
