Fernando M. Reimers et al. will use maps and primary sources to identify places of worship in Egypt. — Students will identify evidence of cultural and historical tradition in Cairo, as well as of its globalized nature — Students will map the geography of Egypt, linking it back to how geography shaped the ancient civilization -— In small groups, students will use what they have learned to create an illustrated tour guide for modern Cairo. Activity 4.3.6 Classroom Connection and Minicapstone: News Project Students will create a newscast of current events at the school that covers, for example, what the students are studying, how they are studying, and how they are acting as historians as well as cultural events in New York City and other features. Students will share this newscast with a classroom in Cairo, and that classroom will share a newscast with their school. Teachers should film the students’ reactions to the news programs. Students will discuss their reactions and the perspectives of their peers. Special Activity Film and Media Festival Students will hold a film and media festival during which they will show their documentary and the documentary of their partner school from unit 2 and their newscast and their partner school’s newscast to parents and the community. Each film will be followed by a brief question—and—answer ses— sion with audience members. 126
