Goals and Objectives:

1. Learn the history of both ancient Egypt and modern Egypt; to ap—
ply the components of civilization (government, religion, econo—
my, arts, technology, settlement, and system of writing) to ancient
Egypt; to understand current events and culture in Egypt; to draw
comparisons and links between ancient and modern times in the
context of Egypt.

2. Inspire in students an appreciation for the accomplishments of
great ancient and modern civilizations.

3. Evaluate Egypt by participating in several activities to develop an
understanding of ancient Egyptian history and culture as well as of
modern culture and by conducting self—guided research projects and
class presentations.

Skills and Knowledge

1. Students will understand (as opposed to recall) the components of
the major periods of Egyptian history.

2. Students will articulate the role of archaeology in developing under—
standing of the past through the close examination of archaeological
sites and artifacts.
