Learn about a few of the things that unite humans—such as the
need for food, water, clothing, shelter, and respectful relationships——
while at the same time learning about their own and others’ cultural
perspectives.

Inspire students to reflect on how plants and animals need many of
the same things that humans need.

Act by identifying some of the key ways in which all humans are the

same.

Students will be able to locate Brazil, India, Russia, and Ethiopia on
a map and to name the continent that each is on.

Students will identify at least four basic human needs that reflect
common values.

Students will describe themselves (their own identities) and see con—
nections between themselves and others (others’ identities), thus

gaining interpersonal skills.
