vinegar 1 oz. Mix all these thoroughly and give the whole to
drink. If this does no good, then be sure that the disease can—
not be overcome by any human means. Some doctors rely
mainly on the emerald, others on Armenian bole, others on
scordium, others on our Italian dictamon.

'TThe following is the formula for my diascordium: Cinnamon
and cassia bark each 12 oz.; scordium 1 oz.; Cretan dictamon,
tormentilla, bistorta each 18 oz.; galbanum and gum each 12 oZ.;
opium 114 drachms; styrax 412 drachms; acetosa 118 drachms;
gentian 12 oz.; Armenian bole 1723 oz.; terra sigillata (i.e. sphragis
or Lemnian earth) 14 oz.; long pepper and ginger each 2 drachms;
white honey despumated (skimmed of froth, clarified) 275 Ibs.;
aromatic wine 12 Ib.; sugar of roses 1 Ib. Mix.'??
