2 • My grandmother Sara Delano Roosevelt was always very fond of this picture of the first
of her three grandchildren because it was taken at the old Delano homestead at Fairhaven,
Massachusetts, where generations of sea-faring Delanos were raised. I must have been about
six years old at the time of this shot. My brother Jimmy stands proudly by, while little brother
Elliott sits stiffly in the old Delano cradle-rocker, a family piece of great sentimental value to us.

3. Father sailing his schooner, the "Half Moon.''' My guess is that he is about twenty-two years
old in this characteristic snapshot.
