This was his last carefree vacation before the polio attack. Lynch, a long-time friend of Father’s. These friends of Father’s, who stayed with us whenever Father was not away campaigning, were grand to me and my brothers. They played games and roughhoused with us. I have snapshots of my two youngest brothers, Franklin, Jr., and John, mounted on the shoulders of Marvin McIntyre and Steve Early—from which position a contest ensued with the boys trying to unseat each other.
