Entertained at Dinner
J. Horace Harding, head of the New York house of C. D. Barney & Co., entertained on Saturday evening at his home, 55 Fifth Avenue, New York City, at dinner the members and employees of the New York and Philadelphia houses. The Philadelphia members and employees to the number of twenty-two went to New York on a private car on Saturday afternoon. An automobile ride around New York City concluded the entertainment.

Pittsburgh Banks
The call of the Comptroller of the Currency Monday, for the condition of national banks at the close of business November 27th was not altogether unexpected, although it was believed in some quarters that there would be no call until the latter part of the week, thus allowing a reflection of banking conditions in the closing month of the year. But Pittsburgh bankers were in position to make an excellent showing, a number of banks reporting large increases in deposits. This is in marked contrast with the corresponding report of a year ago when the influence of the abnormal conditions of that period were being felt. Taken as a whole it goes to show that Pittsburgh has already made wonderful progress toward recover}׳ and its national banks are in better condition than ever.

First National of Pittsburgh
The current statement of the First National of Pittsburgh shows a gratifying increase in business. As compared with the statement of September 23d last, deposits expanded $725,-559.02, while they were $1,229,692.71 more than at the corresponding call of last year, which was dated December 3d.

The Loraine State Bank
The Loraine (N. D.) State Bank reports capital of $10,000. H. J. Dale is president, and L. W. Dale, cashier.
The Lincoln Savings and Trust Company
At a meeting of stockholders of the Lincoln Savings and Trust Company, of Philadelphia, it was decided to increase the capital, reorganize and resume business.
The Philadelphia Bond Business
The efforts of certain bond dealers in Philadelphia to induce their customers to anticipate a part of their January interest and dividends by investing in bonds now has resulted in creating an active demand for nearly all good issues. In many cases the purchases are made “deliverable in January.” There is also a very good business being done for the general investing public.
Banks here have been disposing of some of their short-term notes and re-investing in regular bond issues, and savings institutions are again in the market for the standard grades of bonds.
The Commonwealth Title Insurance and Trust Co.
Growth of business has compelled the Commonwealth Title Insurance and Trust Company of Philadelphia, to require the third floor of its building! which will be. devoted to the real estate and title department.
A New Bond Firm
A new Philadelphia stock and bond firm is announced, composed of George I. Boles and William Thielens. The firm will open for business January 1st probably, with offices in the Lafayette Building. Mr. Boles has been connected with the investment department of Chandler Bros. & Co. Mr. Thielens is a son of E. Thielens, the well known investment broker.

Several Philadelphia banking firms have been invited to participate in the underwriting of the $30,000,000 St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad general lien 5s, which it is expected Speyer & Co. will offer to investors this week. The Rittenhouse Trust Company
The Rittenhouse Trust Company, one of Philadelphia’s new trust companies, makes a very creditable showing in its statement as of November 27th. Total resources are shown to be $745,644. Deposits total $432,192, as against $412,347 on December 16th of last year. The surplus and undivided profits item is $57,951. H. O. Hildebrand is president of the company, and W. C. Fitzgerald treasurer.
Returns from Vacation
Richard L. Austin, vice-president of the Girard National of Philadelphia, returned last week from a month’s vacation spent at Virginia Hot Springs.
The West End Trust Company
The West End Trust Company of Philadelphia, in its statement under the call of the state banking commissioner as of November 27th shows deposits of $4,464,594, as compared with $3,516,330 on December 16th of last year, a gain of $948,264, or nearly a million dollars. The company’s surplus and undivided profits now total $1,088,987.
Will Retire December 31st
It is understood that Walter C. Louchheim will retire December 31st from the firm of J. S. Bache & Co., and will form the firm of Walter C. Louchheim & Co., which will take over the business and offices of J. S. Bache & Co. in Philadelphia.
A. A. Jackson Attended Meeting
A. A. Jackson, vice-president of the Girard Trust Company, of Philadelphia, attended the informal gathering of the members of the trust company section of the American Bankers Association in New York. The most important subject considered was whether the trust company section should compile a digest of trust company laws in all the states, with full references and decisions.
