safe in prophesying that this will be the best convention of its kind ever held within our borders.
I have always looked upon Lincoln as a most suitable place for the holding of our meetings, the environments are so ideal. Turning to the north we find that noble institution of learning, our State University, of which we as Nebraskans are so justly proud, over whose doors is indelibly written, “Young men and young women are welcome here.” Gazing westward, o’er the silver}' waters of Capital Beach, we discover in unmistakable brilliancy the motto, “Lovers are welcome here,” casting your eyes eastward to “Fair-view,” the home of our honored citizen and orator, and if the distance is too great for the eye, (Continued on page 29)
The convention was called to order yesterday morning by President J. P. A. Black of Hastings and Mayor 1''. W. Brown welcomed the delegates in behalf of the city. Governor Geo. L. Sheldon welcomed the visitors in behalf of the banks of Lincoln* and Geo. L. Meissner of Crete, responded. He said:
On behalf of the bankers of Nebraska, it affords me great pleasure to thank you for this most cordial welcome.
It goes without saying that there is not one of our members here present but that will accept in the same spirit that they are given the many courtesies you so kindly offer. We know that you mean what you say and I doubt if any of our visitors, even those from the good old state of Missouri will dare ask to be shown.
We have cast aside the cares that attend the daily grind of business and have met here in our annual convention to talk over matters which are not only of vital importance to ourselves as indi-

Lincoln, Neb., September 25.—The twelfth annual convention of the Nebraska Bankers Association is being held here in the convention hall of the new part of the Lincoln hotel, which hotel

is also the headquarters. This is especially convenient and everything indicates that this will be the most pleasant, instructive and interesting convention ever held by the association. The program committee cut down the numbers at each session, which allowed ample time for the delegates to get seated and avoided the annoyance of having part of the audience take its departure during the latter part of a long program.
On Wednesday evening the executive council met at the Lincoln hotel at 8:30 o’clock. This meeting received the reports of the committee appointed to make arrangements for the convention, concluded these arrangements, and passed upon all matters to be presented to the convention.
