Sew on buttons. BABY’S CROCHETED VEST Materials: Six Balls Richardson’s White Perfect Crochet or Knitting Silk. One Steel Crochet Hook No. 8. Eight Pearl Buttons. This Vest is crocheted in 1 piece and buttoned on the shoulder. Directions: Right Front—Ch. 132 sts (about 12% inches), turn, skip 3 sts, 1 d in each of 129 sts, turn, ch 3 (ch 3 at starting of row is counted as 1 d). Second Row: Skip 1 st, 1 d in each st, turn, ch 3. Repeat 2nd row for pattern throughout vest. Repeat 2nd row until there are 16 rows from start, ch 14 sts for shoulder, turn, skip 3 sts, make 11 d on the ch sts, 1 d in each st to end of row, turn, ch 3. Make 17 rows, having 142 d in each row, turn, ch 3, the last row will end at bottom of vest. Make 3 rows having 92 d in row for under arm, leaving 50 sts for armhole, then ch 52 sts for armhole on back. Make 17 rows having 142 sts in row, then leave 12 d at shoulder, make 29 rows having 130 sts in each row, ch 14 sts towards neck and make 17 rows on the 142 sts for shoulder, leave off 50 sts for armhole, make 3 rows on 92 sts for under arm, then ch 52 sts for armhole. Make 16 rows having 142 d in each row, ch 1, break off silk. Spaces at Neck: Ch 1, 1 tr in st, * ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 d tr in next st, repeat from * to shoulder, fasten in 5th st on shoulder, ch 1, break off silk, fasten. Repeat on other front. Across Neck of Back: Ch 1, start at 4th d from neck with a si st, repeat from front across back of neck. Edge: Ch 1, start at bottom of right front, 1 s in st, * ch 4, 1 d in s, skip 2 sts, 1 s in next st, repeat from * up front, across neck and shoulders and down other front. Second Row: One s in space made by ch 3, * ch 3, draw loop through same space, draw a loop through next space, made by ch 3, over, draw through the 3 loops on hook, repeat from * ending row, ch 3, draw a loop through space made by ch 5 at starting of previous row, having 60 spaces of ch 3, and 1 space of ch 5 in row, turn, ch 5. Repeat 2nd row for pattern throughout sweater, crochet following pattern until back measures 8% inches from start. Ch 71 sts for one sleeve (about 6 inches), do not break off silk. With an extra ball of silk, ch 68 sts (about 6 inches), join with a si st to 3rd ch st on ch 5 first made in row, ch 1, break off silk. Start where silk was left, on sleeve, turn, skip 5 sts, repeat direction from start of back on the 71 sts, crochet following pattern on sts across back, and then repeat directions from start of back on the 68 ch sts for other sleeve, having 128 spaces of ch 3 and 1 space of ch 5 in row, crochet following pattern until back measures 12% inches from start. For over shoulder: Crochet following pattern on 58 spaces of ch 3 for 5 rows, ch 41 sts towards front, turn, skip 5 sts, crochet following pattern having 1 space of ch 5 and 18 spaces of ch 3 on the ch sts, crochet following pattern on the remaining sts in row until there are 32 rows or 4 inches from start of front, leave off 34 spaces for sleeves, then crochet following pattern until sideseam on front is same length as side-seam on back, leave 13 spaces for back of neck, and make other'front to correspond, but with an extra ball of silk ch 38 sts for front and join with a si st to 1׳st row. Ch 1, break off silk, when starting front. Sew up !sleeves and side seams. Collar: With pink silk, ch 1, 1 si st in ch 5, skip 1 st, crochet following pattern from sweater around n^״k, having about 65 sp-'ces of ch 3 and 1 spac- of ch 5 in. each row until collar is 3 inches wide from Cuffs: With pink silk, ch 1, make about 72 s around sleeve, turn, ch 5, croc het following pattern from sweater, having 35 spaces of ch 3 and 1 space of ch 5 in each row until there are 16 rows, ch 1, break off silk.
