from April 15th to October 15th in order to give anything like the proper attention to inspection work in the State.
Thé interests of public health demand that control of milk, both as to its production and distribution, shall include regular laboratory regulations of milk and cream by bacteriological methods. The enforcement of bacterial standards is more effective, than any other one thing in improving the sanitary character of public milk supplies. Satisfactory results cannot be obtained without sufficient appropriation for laboratory work, and we feel that the amount asked for is very small in comparison to what the work demands.

Herewith statement showing annual appropriation necessary for the maintenance of this office for the years ending June 30th, 1922 and 1923.
Owing to existing conditions it will be necessary to ask for V larger appropriation for deputies and office help. It is impossible to secure the services of a good man for inspection work unless he is paid a reasonable salary and kept on a reasonable length of time. During the warm weather the field work is very heavy and it is necessary to have at least two deputies
