Fees received in the office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court of the years 19191920־ and deposited with the State Treasurer........״״״״״'״״ such, with the increasing business of his office, that a deputy is necessary, and by combining the duties of the bailiff with assisting the Clerk as deputy, the Clerk’s office can be taken care of without any other help. The appropriation for contingent expenses of the Court has been found sufficient in the past, and I think by careful management it will suffice for the next two years. „ It will be noticed that five hundred dollars of the fund for the salary of the bailiff for the past year was returned to the treasury, and in explanation will say that for five months the Court was without a bailiff, the Chief Justice opening court himself. . i Yours very respectfully. My Dear Sir: In compliance with the provisions of Section 10, Chapter 61, of the Session Laws of 1919, l am handing you herewith my report of the expenditures of the Supreme Court for the past fiscal year and estimates of the needs of the Court for the coming two years. • At the request of the members of the Supreme Court the estimates ask for a modest increase in the amount for clerical help and salary of the Clerk to compensate for the increased cost of living, no increases having heretofore been made in this department. The increase in the salary of the bailiff of the Court is recommended in order that he may also act as deputy clerk of the Court, as the Clerk has no deputy, and the duties of the Clerk are — 47 —
