After tests in the firing and then in the recoil position of the gun, the gun was returned to firing position and simultaneous readings taken on gauged lengths A and B. Loads were increased until the extension of the piston rod indicated that 60,000 pounds tension had reached that part, which occurred when a load of about 69,000 pounds was on the mechanism. Loads were increased to 72,000 pounds tension, the maximum stress of the preceding test.
