The Divine compassion.
more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?
3	Shall wood be taken thereot to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon ?
4	Behold, it is cast«* into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. /3 Is it meet for any work ?
5	Behold, when it was whole it was 7 meet for no work : how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned ?
6	Therefore thus saith the Lord God, As the vine-tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
7	And I will set my face against them ; they shall go out from one fire, and anotherk fire shall devour them; and* ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I set my face against them.
8	And I will make the land desolate, because they have ¿committed a trespass, saith the Lord God.
CHAP. XVI.
.Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2	Son of man, cause? Jerusalem to know her abominations,
3	And say, Thus saith the Lord God unto Jerusalem, Thy Cbirth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father® was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.
4	And as for thy nativity, in the day thou* wast born, thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water Kto supple thee: thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.
5	None eye pitied thee, to do any ot these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee ; but thou wast cast out in the open fieid, to the lothing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born.
6	And when I passed by thee, and saw thee A polluted m thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; * yea, I said unto thee, when thou wast in thy blood, Live.
7	I have ju caused thee to multiply* as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to »׳excellent ornaments: thy breasts® are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare.
8	Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love ; and 1 spread® my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant® with thee, saith the Lord God, and thou becamest/ mine.
9	Then washed I thee with* water: yea, I throughly washed away thy p blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.
10	I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers’ skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk.
11	I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thine hands, and a chain on thy neck.
12	And I put a jewel on thy <r forehead, and ear-rings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.
13	Thus wast thou decked with gold

8	And a I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign6 and a proverb, and I will cut him off® from the midst of my people ; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
9	And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I® the Lord have deceived that prophet; and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
10	And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him ;
11	That the house of Israel may go no more astray/ from me, neither be polluted.any more with all their transgressions; but thats they may be my people, and 1 may be their God, saith the Lord God.
12	The word of the Loud came again to me, saying,
13	Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will l stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff* of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:
14	Though* these three men, Noah,”*
Daniel,׳* and Job,® were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness,7 saith the Lord God.
15	If I cause noisome beastsr to pass through the land, and they q spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:
16	Though these three men were in 0 it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.
17	Or if I bringa sword ״ upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off״ man and beast from it :
18	Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.
19	Or if I send a pestilence׳״ into that land, ana pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:
20	Though¡׳ Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it. as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
21	For thus saith the Lord God, tt How much more when I send my four6 sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast 1
22	Yet,«* behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters; behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall ^ see their way and their doings : and ye shall be comforted* concerning the evil* that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even con■ cerning all that 1 have brought upon it.
23	And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings : and ye shall know* that I have not done without cause״* all that I have done in it, saith the Lord God.

2	Fili hominis, quid fiet de ligno vitis ex omnibus lignis nemorum, quse sunt inter ligna silvarum?
3	Numquid tolletur de ea lignum, ut fiat opus, aut fabricabitur de ea paxii-lus, ut dependeat in eo quodcumque vas ?
4	Ecce igni datum est in escam: utramque partem ejus consumpsit ignis, et medietas ejus redacta est in tavillam: numquid utile erit ad opus?
5	Etiam cum esset integrum, non erat

Jerusalem: Radix tua, et generatio tua de terra Chanaan:	pater tuus Amor-

4	Et quando nata es in die ortus tui non est pnecisus umbilicus tuus, et aqua non es lota in saluterò, nec sale salita, nec involuta pannis.
5	Non pepercit super te oculus ut faceret tibi unum de his, misertus tui: sed projecta es super faciem teme in abjectione auimse tuae, in die qua nata es.
6	Transiens autem per te, vidi te con: culcari in sanguine tuo: et dixi tibi cum esses in sanguine tuo. Vive, dixi, inquam, tibi: In sanguine tuo vive.

14	Et si fuerint tres viri isti in medio ejus, Noe, Daniel, et Job: ipsi justitia sua liberabunt animas suas, ait Dominus exercituum.

19	Si autem et pestilentiam immisero super terram illam, et effudero indigna-tionem meam super eam iu sanguine, ut auferam ex ea hominem, et jumentum :
20	Et Noe, et Daniel, et Job fuerint
in medio ejus: vivo ego, dicit Dominus Deus, quia filium, et filiam non liberabunt: sed ipsi justitia sua liberabunt animas suas.	.	_
21	Quoniam hasc dicit Dominus Deus Quòd et si quattuor judicia raea pessima, gladium, et famem, ac bestias malas, et pestilentiam immisero in Jerusalem ut interficiam de ea hominem, et pecus :
