BIBLIA POLTGLOTTA, Peophetia Isaiæ, XLIII. VERSIO ANGLICANA. TEXTUS HEBRAICUS. Encouragement to God's people. 2 When6 thou passest through the waters,«¿ 1 ■will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee : when thou walkest through the/ fire, thou shalt not lie burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. 3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave6 Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. 4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee : therefore will 1 give men for thee, and people for thy 7 lift. 5 Fear not; for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; 6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring * my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; 7 Even every one that is called״״ by my name: for 1 have created him for my glory, T have formed him; yea, I have made® him. 8 Bring forth the blind? people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. 9 Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified : or let them hear.and say,It is truth. 10 Ye“ are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant״ whom I have chosen : that ye may know and believe me, and understand that 1 am he : before me x there was »1 no God formed, neither shall there be after me. 11 I, even I, am the Lord ; and beside me there is no 0 Saviour. 12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God. 13 Yea, before the day war, I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand : I will work, and who® shall k let it 14 Thus saith the Lo r D, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their X nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry !i in the ships. 15 I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King. 16 Thus saith the Lord, which6 maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters; 17 Which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power ;Tney shall lie down together, they shall not rise; they are extinct, they are quenched as tow. 18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing: now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? 1 will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. 20 The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the cowls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen. 21 This people have I formed for myself; they״ shall shew forth my praise. 22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary? of me, O Israel. 23 Thou hast not brought me the r small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast ISAIAH, XLIII. Blindness of the Jews. that sit in darkness“ out of the prison-house. 8 I am the Lord ;e that is my name: and® my glory will 1 not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. 9 Belioid, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare; before 8 they spring forth I tell you of them. 10 Sing unto the Lord a new i־song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and 8 all that is thereiu ; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. 11 Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains. 12 Let¿ them give glory unto the Lord, and declare his praise in the islands. 13 The LoRDshali go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a” man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall ¿prevail against his enemies. 14 I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now1 will I cry like a travailing woman; 1 will destroy and idevour at once. 15 I will make waste mountains’׳ and bills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools. 16 And® 1 will bring the blind* by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths7״ that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things (¿straight. These things will I do^ unto them, and not* forsake them. 17 They6 shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods. 18 Hear,® ye deaf; and look, ye«¿ blind, that ye may see. 19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the Lord’s servant? 20 Seeing many things, but thou ob-servest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not. 21 The Lord is well pleased for/ his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify 8 the law, and make /a it honourable. 22 But this is a people robbed and* spoiled; v they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison-houses; they are for a prey, and none delivered!; for a 7r spoil, and none saith, Restore. 23 Who among you will give ear to this ? who will hearken, and hear for pthe time to come ? 24 Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers ? did not the Lord, he6 against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law. 25 Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire¿ round about, yet״״ he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart. -o CHAP.
