A new agreement drawn out by Mr. Lloyd Hughes, the owner of the Coedhelen Estate, Carnarvonshire, has attracted considerable attention among agriculturists throughout North Wales. It appears that some of the tenants have already signed the document•, but others have as yet abstained from doing so. The following are among the conditions contained in the agreement: —<1) The landlord lets and the tenant takes the farm for a year, six months’ notice to leave being given on either side. (2) The rent in each case will be fixed, and days for the payment thereof appointed; and the tenant must pay an additional rent of £50 for every acre of pasture land ploughed without the consent of the landlord. (5) The land-owner reserves to himself the right to the game, wild fowls (subject to the tenant’s rights under the Ground Game Act of 1880), and to the timber, quarries, and minerals on the land. (4) The tenant shall not let any part of a farm without the written consent of the owner. (5) The tenant, at the expiration of his tenancy, must leave all the buildings, together with the roads, doors and gates, etc., in a state of repair. (6) All the hay, straw, clover, and all crops, such as potatoes, turnips, swedes, etc., must be consumed on the farm, and the tenant shall not sell or remove them without the consent of the landowner, and if such permission is given the tenant at the end of three months must put artificial manure on the land worth at least one-fourth of the value of the hay sold, or the. tenth part of the value of the potatoes, swedes, etc., sold. (7) The tenant must also keep and protect the game, wild fowls, fish, etc., for the landowner, or for any person authorised by him. (8) The landowner shall have the right to prosecute trespassers and poachers in the name of the tenant. (9) The tenant is not allowed during the last year of his tenancy to let land for grazing purposes without paying a fine of £10 for each animal taken. TO READERS.
