‘That’s it—blame the manufacturer! Everybody does the same thing when their
tyres go wrong ! Must be the tyres, eh ! Dick ? Can’t be your fault or your driver’s ?
‘ Oh, no! ’ you’ll say. But—look here, Dick ! I’ve been in business a pretty long
time and I find that people blame my goods in just the same way that you blame your
tyres; and I’ve found, too, that very often the user has brought the bit of trouble
home to himself.

You’ve got flats on your off front wheel tyres, you say. ‘ Flats ’—funny word, isn’t it ?
Flats in tyres and flats in business—perhaps, Dick ! You can’t put flats in Dunlop solid
rubber tyres by accident, my boy : they come from worn bushes or slack steering arms.
There’s a lateral movement set up when the lorry’s running. Jack up the wheel
and you’ll soon be able to trace the trouble—then put it right and avoid repetitions.

You know that flats in the rear wheels will come from an elliptical brake-drum or fierce
braking. So avoid both and your Dunlop solid tyres will run big mileages for you.

And that’s enough ‘ flat ’ talk ! ”
