The London coal trade has recovered wonderfully from the holiday season, and work at all the depots is proceeding smoothly and satisfactory. Railborne and seaborne quantities have been fairly good since the resumption of work. Hard steam coal and double screened nuts continue exceedingly short. Market reports dwell on a quiet resumption after the holiday break. Business on home account shapes for briskness in Northumberland and Durham, but forward enquiries are lessened by the obvious facts that tonnage is scarce, and that the output is likely to be ample. Minimum prices are accepted for all sorts except special smithies, which command up
