The return of warmer weather has checked the actual household consumption, and back orders are now being dealt with. The shipping trade is improving. A firm tone characterises fhe Newcastle and Cardiff markets. On the Tyne and Wear a good all-round enquiry is current for early loading; bunkers are steady, and coke has advanced. The pressure for house coal is rather less in Lancashire, but the demand for industrial fuel continues, and quotations are very firm. The trouble regarding wagons still hampers the Yorkshire collieries, and orders are very much in arrear, despite the improved
