Hull Coal Exports.—The official return of the exports of
coal from Hull to foreign countries for the week ending
Tuesday, February 15, is as follows :—Amsterdam, 303 tons;
Christiansund, 198; Calais, 1,802; Dunkirk, 3,887; Har-
lingen, 381; Havre, 613; Rotterdam, 3,162; Rouen, 3,137;
Trondhjem, 68—total, 13,551 tons. Corresponding period
February 1915, total 27,829 tons.' These figures do not
include bunker coal, shipments for the British Admiralty, or
the Allies Governments. To be added to last week’s list :
Guernsey, 235 tons; Portland (M.), 147; Rouen, 18,568 tons
—total, 18,950 tons; total 11,980 tons previous given; cor-
rected total, 30,930 tons.

American Anthracite in 1915.—Estimates prepared by the
Anthracite Bureau of Information at Wilkes-Barre indicate
that the production of anthracite coal in Pennsylvania in
19.15 will show a decrease, as compared with 1914, of about
2,000,000 long tons. The monthly shipments reported by
the Bureau, with estimates for December, indicate a total
for the year of about 66,382,000 tons, as compared with
68,342,601 tons in 1914. These figures do not include the
shipments over the Lehigh and New England Railroad, nor
any of the output from Sullivan county. If to the total
shipments as reported by .the Bureau are added these ship-
ments, the sales to local trade, and the colliery consumption,
the total production for the year is estimated at 79,100,000
tons, as against 81,090,631 tons in 1914. As compared with
the maximum production of anthracite, which was reached
in 1913, the production in 1915 shows a decrease of
2,600,000 tons. According to reports made to C. E. Lesher,
of -the Geological Survey , the decrease in production in 1915
is due to the fact that.in- spite of repeated warnings that a
scarcity, of fuel would be likely to occur in the winter of 1915,
the consumers have not laid in their winter supply in advance
to the same extent as formerly, and the retailers had been
equally laggard in placing their orders.

REPORTS AND DIVIDENDS.

Cardiff Collieries Limited.—In their report for the year 1915
the directors show that the profit for the year was
453,764 13s. lOd. This, together with the balance brought
forward from 1914, 427,272 10s. 10d., amounts to
481,037 4s. 8d., from which falls to be deducted interim
dividend of 5 per cent, paid on the preference and ordinary
shares, 414,647 10s., leaving 466,389 14s. 8d., out of which
the directors have placed to depreciation account 45,000,
leaving a balance of 461,389 14s. 8d., which they recom-
mend should be disposed of as follows :—Payment of final
dividend of 10 per cent, on the preference shares for 1915 (less
income-tax), 49,530; payment of final dividend of 10 per cent,
on the ordinary shares for 1915 (less income-tax), 419,765—_
429,295; income-tax account, 42,000; directors’ fees, 41,200;
and carrying forward 428,894 14s. 8d.

Consolidated Cambrian Limited. — The directors, in their
report for the year ended December 31, 1915, state that the
net income for the 12 months, including the balance of
41,210 8s. brought forward from last account, amounts to
4186,439 17s. Id., deducting interim dividends on the pre-
ference and ordinary shares paid July 27 last, the sum of
4122,419 4s. Id. remains available for distribution. The
directors recommend that a dividend at the rate of 6 per cent,
per annum on the preference shares for the half-year ended
December 31, and a dividend of 5 per cent, (making 10 per
cent, for the year), and a bonus of 5 per cent, on the ordinary
shares, absorbing 498,275 14s. lOd. be paid, that the sum
of 422,500 be written off formation account, and the balance,
amounting to 41,643 9s. 3d. be carried forward.

Davis (D.) and Sons Limited.—The directors’ report for
the year ended December 31, 1915, states that the net profits
for the year, after deducting debenture interest, directors’
tecs, and income-tax, amount to 4200,127 Is. 8d., to which
should be added the net balance brought forward from the
preceding year, viz., 464,588 12s. Id., making a total of
4264,715 13s. 9d., of which sum the dividend upon the pre-
ference shares and the interim dividend upon the ordinary
shares for the half-year ended June 30 last absorbed 442,375.
The directors now recommend that provision for depreciation
of the company’s property and investments, viz.,
436,397 19s. 6d.; special expenditure during the year, special
reserve for income-tax and .excess profits duty, and payment
of 414,243 13s. in respect of pension scheme for employees of
the company, inaugurated during the year, amounting to
432,848 9s. lid., be written off profit and loss; and that there
be added to the company’s reserve account 450,000 ; leaving
a balance, as shown by profit and loss account, of
4103,094 4s. 4d. The directors also propose that the follow-
ing dividends be paid, viz. : A dividend at the rate of 6 per
cent, per annum upon the preference shares for the six months
ended December 31 last, absorbing 43,000; and a dividend
for the same period (free of income-tax) at the rate of 10 per
cent, per annum upon the ordinary share capital, absorbing
439,375; and that the balance of profits, viz., 460.719 4s. 4d.,
be carried forward to the current year. During the year the
lease of the Bodryngallt taking of the company expired, and
was not renewed. The directors have had an opportunity of
disposing of the company’s interest in Messrs. John Lancaster
and Company Limited, at a profit, and have deemed it
advisable to avail themselves of it, but the transaction was
not completed until after the close of the year, and is there-
fore not shown in the accounts. The directors took up 430,000
of the War Loan, and propose to deal in a similar manner
with any moneys the company may have from time to time
which are not required for its immediate purposes.

Fife Coal Company Limited. — The accounts of the Fife
Coal Company for the past year show a surplus of 4269,297,
after providing for the interim dividend. A final dividend of
20 per cent, is proposed on the ordinary shares, making 25
per cent., free of tax, for the 12 months, and carrying forward
497,289.

Graham’s Navigation (Merthyr) Collieries Limited.—The
report for the year ended December 31, 1915, states that on
capital account 42,579 10s. 8d. has been expended during the
year on plant and machinery. The quantity of coal raised
was 113,263 tons, against 94,584 tons in 1914, and 74,560
tons in 1913. The accounts, after payment of debenture
interest and writing off 42,000 for depreciation, show a profit
of 48,044 17s. 6d., making, with the balance of 42,810 16s. 2d.
to the credit of profit and loss account brought forward from
last year, a total of 410.855 13s. 8d. From this amount is
deducted the interim dividend, at the rate of 10 per cent, per
annum, paid in July last, 41,250, leaving a balance of
49,605 13s. 8d., which the directors propose shall be dealt
with as follows :—To reserve account, 42,000; final dividend
at the rate of 15 per cent, per annum (making 12J per cent,
for the whole year), 42,250, less income-tax, and carry for-
ward 45,355 13s. 8d.

Great Western Colliery Company Limited.—The directors
recommend the following dividends :—5s. per share on pre-
ference shares of class “A”; 10s. per share on ordinary
shares of class “ B,” fully-paid; 7s. 6d. per share on ordinary
shares of class “ B,” partly-paid; less income-tax, making
15 per cent, for the year 1915.

Mather and Platt Limited.—The report for the year ended
December 31 last states that the net profits, after charging
depreciation, directors’ remuneration, and making provision
for doubtful debts, are 4103,622,. making, with 466,839
brought forward, 4170,461. The directors recommend a
dividend on the ordinary shares of 94 per cent, (making 12J
per cent, for the year), and to carry forward 475.461.

Merry and Cuninghame Limited. — Including 446,916
brought forward, the net profits for the past year amount to
4127,051. The directors have allocated 410,000 each to
depreciation and sinking fund for redemption of debentures,
and recommend a dividend of 10 per cent, on the ordinary
shares, that 420.000 be placed to dividend suspense account,
and 455,801 carried forward. Ardeer Iron Works, Ayrshire,
have been purchased for 4250,000.

Midland. Railway Carriage and Wagon Company Limited'.
—The directors announce that the consideration of the pay-
ment of a dividend on the preference shares has been deferred
until the accounts to June 30 next have been made up.

National Boiler and General Insurance Company Limited.
—The report of the directors for the year ended December 31
last states that it is proposed to dispose of the 424.214 .stand-
ing to the credit, of the profit and loss account as follows ;—
Dividend on 15.000 shares at Ils. per share, 48,250, less tax
at 3s. 3d., 41.340,; reserve for excess profits duty, 43,000;
add to reserve fund, 44,000; investment reserve. 45,000; and
carry forward 45,305.
