Orders are plentiful, and far beyond the supply. Prices are stationary. With the near approach of the Christmas holidays, the usual pressure for coal supplies is being exerted, but, unfortunately, the supply is quite inadequate to meet the heavy demand. On the Tyne and Wear, the tone of the prompt markets has ruled firm. Prices are exhibiting an upward tendency. Increasing demand and inability to satisfy requirements are the main features in the Lancashire, Cheshire and Derbyshire markets. The Cardiff situation remains much about the same as a week ago, prices fluctuating according to each individual case. The Scottish coal trade continues to be brisk, with all qualities firm. It is understood that the Griffin Nantygio Colliery property has been acquired by the Ebbw Vale Iron and Coal Company and Messrs. T. Beynon and Co. The average value of coal, coke and manu- factured fuel exported from the United Kingdom during November was 17s. 10-Id. per ton, as com- pared with 13s. 3*09d. in November 1914, and 14s. 0*5d. in November 1913. The value during the first eleven completed months of the present year is 16s. 10-3d. per ton, as com- pared with 13s 7 9d. and 13s. ll*8d. respectively in the corresponding periods of 1914 and 1913. Of the total exports of coal during November, the mean value of the large coal exported was 19s. 4’6d.; through-and-through (unscreened), 15s. 5 8d.; and small coal, 15s. 11’4d. The average value of all kinds of coal exported was 17s. 5’4d., an increase of 0 3d. as compared with the previous month. Other- wise divided, it fetched the following:—Steam coal, 17s. 4-7d. ; gas coal, 15s. 0-7d. ; anthracite, 26s. 5-5d. ; household, 19s. 4’2d. ; other sorts, 15s. 19d. The average value of the coke exported was 27s. 0-3d. per ton, and of the manufactured fuel 22s. 9 2d. per ton. At the request of the Nova Scotia Government the Admiralty have authorised a test of Nova Scotia washed nut coal, for fleet purposes. The meeting of the Manchester Geological and Mining Society, which was to have taken place on Tuesday was postponed until next Tuesday. A paper on ‘‘Visual Signalling” will be read by Mr. H. Green.
