LONDON, FRIDAY, JUNE 27, 1913. ______________________ The Northumberland miners have decided to hold a ballot on the question of handing in notices to secure the abolition of “ baff” Satur- day working. It was also decided to proceed with agitation for the abandonment of the three- shift system. The South Wales miners on Monday adopted a new schedule of rates and conditions which is to be pressed upon the owners. There was a big majority against the proposal to increase contri- butions, but the matter has been again referred to the lodges. The Chancellor of the Exchequer has intro- duced his amending Bill to the National Insurance Act. It provides for additional grants for medical benefits, penalises excessive deduc- tions by employers, enables casual labourers to contribute in proportion to period of employ- ment and provides for increased benefits for aged workers.
