The average value of coal, coke and manufac- tured fuel exported from the United Kingdom during May was 14s. l’6d. per ton, as compared with 13s. l’4d. in May 1912 and Ils. 43d. in May 1911. The value during the first five completed months of the present year is 13s. 10’6d. per ton, as compared with 12s. 8*5d. and Ils. 5*5d. respectively in the corresponding periods of 1912 and 1911. Of the total exports of coal during May, the mean value of the large coal exported was 15s. 6’8d. ; through-and-through (unscreened) coal, 12s. 45d.; and small coal, Ils. 10’2d. The average value of all kinds of coal exported was 13s. lT9d., an increase of 0*ld. as compared with the preceding month. Otherwise divided, it fetched the following values:—Steam coal, 14s. 4 4d.; gas coal, 12s. 3’5d. ; anthracite, 15s. 10*6d. ; household coal, 12s. ll*5d. ; and other sorts of coal, 12s. 7 2d. The value of the coke exported was 19s. 8’2d. per ton, and of the manufactured fuel 17s. 5'2d. per ton. On Monday the Select Committee of the House of Lords approved the Bill of the North British Railway Company for providing addi- tional facilities for the traffic in coal from the Lothian coalfield to Leith and Granton, on the condition that the company expedite the
