Press The statistical and other evidence collected by Dr. Llewellyn, and his thorough quantitative examinaticn into the actual illumination at the working face with different lights, have rendered the whole subject intelligible on its practical side. The disease is fully explained and described, and an historical account is given of the disease and theories of its causation, and the conditions determining the occurrence of nystagmus discussed. A whole chapter is devoted to the preventive measures and treatment.—South Wales Daily News. Dr. Llewellyn adopts the view which has already been maintained in this country by Dr. Court, of Staveley, and other mining authorities, that this disease is closely connected with deficient illumination in the mines. He deals at length and in very great detail with the disease, giving many interesting tables of statistics, and some extremely significant illustrations. The subject is one very well worth careful study Notices. , on the part of all those interested in the well-being of the large mining population of this district, and this volume is an important contribution to the science and know- ledge of the subject.—Sheffield Daily Telegraph. To the medical profession and to the mining community alike, Dr. T. Lister Llewellyn’s “Miners’ Nystagmus: Its Causes and Prevention ” will be of very real value, resulting as it does from a long series of close investigations into the disease, which, as Prof. Haldane says, in a preface to the book, has been recognised for about 50 years, though full and exact study of the conditions which cause it have been hitherto lacking. Dr. Llewellyn was appointed as the first student under the Tyndall bequest, and his experience of mining conditions made him particularly well fitted for the painstaking investigations which he has carried out.—Newcastle Daily Chronicle.
