OVERHEARD IN THE GARAGE.

Jim is the father of the garage—a man
who has been driving motor lorries since
motor lorries were. Mike has quite re-
cently graduated from driving a pair of
horses to the internal combustion engine.

spry on their pins, was they? Seven
miles an hour and a load of about one ton
behind ’em, eh ?

You never drove them ’orses till they dropped,
did you? With the wheels of the van shaken
to bits and the load a-shifting all over the shop!

No, you ’ad more respect for them ’orses than
you’ve got for that lorry of yours, Mike. You
go shoving ’er along at 20 or 25 miles an hour
with no time to choose the best part of the road,
and then you wonders why your Dunlop solid
rubber tyres are banged and broken up, not to
say anything of the bits you shakes off the
lorry. I reckon if you drove it for twelve
months like I saw you driving last Tuesday
evening you’d lose enough bolts and nuts to
build a new lorry ! ”
