The London depots are now receiving better supplies of house coals. Steam coal and kitchen cobbles are scarce. Gas coals are more plentiful. Reports from Northumberland and Durham state that steam and gas coals are plentiful at minimum figures, and that bunkers for ordinary business are dull. The Durham pits (except those in South Durham) are working irregularly. The keen demand in Lancashire for house coal is attributed to the fact that stocks are not satisfactory. Industrial coal is in good demand. The market in Yorkshire remains firm, and is practically unchanged since last week, except that South Yorkshire hards are easier in Hull. New business in South Wales is subject to the usual question of tonnage, which is still much below requirements. The inland demand is good. Business in Scotland has quietened, but the tone is firm.
