November 17, 1916. THE COLLIERY GUARDIAN. 947 WARNING INFRINGEMENT Magneto Type Safety Lamp Relighting Machines. Not only is the maker of an article which infringes the Patent Rights held by someone else liable to penalty, but the user of the article is also similarly liable for infringement. We are the pioneers of Safety Lamp Lighting Machines so arranged that the lamp chamber must be closed before the electric current may be turned through the lamp. Amongst many other of Mr. Hailwood’s Patents owned by this Company we may mention claims 15 and 16 of Mr. E. A. Hailwood’s Patent No. 28,255 of 1907, which read: — “ Claim 1 5.—In apparatus for electrically igniting miners’ safety lamps, a generator chamber having a revolving or semi-revolving, or sliding door, said door carrying an operating handle or the like for a dynamo or generator, arranged in such a manner that the admission openings or doors in the generator chamber lamp chamber must be closed before the said handle can be put into engagement with the generator.” “Claim 16.—In apparatus for electrically igniting miners* safety lamps underground, a lamp chamber having a revolving or semi-revolving or sliding door, said door carrying an operating handle or the like for a dynamo or generator, arranged in such a manner that the admission opening or door in the lamp chamber must be closed before the said handle can be put into engagement with the generator.” This master claim is very broad and does effectually prevent others from offering or using a safety lamp relighting machine of the magneto type embodying such a definitely claimed principle. We warn Colliery Owners not to be deceived by claims of people holding patents for subsidiary details which cannot be put into complete use other than by first infringing the master claims of the main patent. Persons infringing our Patent Rights will be sued as the Law directs. Remember, damages for infringement may go back to the first day of the infringement, even though years elapse.
