573 THE COLLIERY GUARDIAN. September 22, 1916. _______ ______ _____ _______________ The Use of Wood-Brake Blocks on Colliery winding engines is a source of danger from fire. Many instances have come under our notice where serious damage has resulted owing to the brake blocks firing. In addition there is the danger of the brakes failing to act owing to the wood carbonising. These dangers can be eliminated by the use of Ferodo linings on your brakes. These are absolutely spark-proof and non-flammable. They have a far greater co-efficient of friction than wood and a durability many times greater than Hard Oak. Being non-abradent the drum surface is maintained highly polished and true, so that the greatest braking efficiency is constantly maintained. The use of Ferodo linings results in more coal being wound per day. CLUTCH AND BRAKE LININGS.
