(CoUieqi Guardian AND Journal of tho Coal and Iron Trades. Joint Editors— J. V. ELSDEN, D.Sc. (Lond.), F.G.S. HUBEBT GBEENWELL, F.S.S., Assoc.M.I.M.E. (At present on Active Service). LONDON, FRIDAY, AUGUST 18, 1916. The London coal trade continues firm and unchanged. Prices are unaltered. Very little free coal is offering. The market for prompt coal on the Tyne and Wear is languid, and most descriptions are cheaper. A derangement of stems threw considerable quantities of unscreened Durham coal on the market. The shipping business is quiet in Lancashire, and slacks are easier on account of holidays at works. Other fuels remain firm in Yorkshire. Leicestershire reports that the output does not suffice for the present large supply of wagons. Prices are firm in South Wales, unlike those in Western and Eastern j Scotland.
