The London coal trade is in a very embarrassed condition. The colder weather and the snowstorms have considerably lessened the tonnage and increased the difficulties of cartage. New records injreight rates for coal were reached during the week. On the Tyne and Wear prompt business was of an irregular nature, coal supplies and tonnage being extremely scarce ; values in some I cases were dearer. Throughout Lancashire, York- shire and Derbyshire the colder weather stimulated
