HUBEET GBEENWELL, F.S.S., Assoc.M.I.M.E. LONDON, FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 1915. The London coal trade is unusually quiet for all household qualities, but manufacturing coals are in strong demand. Public orders for household qualities are slow and the delivery trade is dull. No change has yet been made in the advertised prices, and very little alteration has been made in colliery quotations. Kates of freight do not as yet appear to have abandoned their upward tendency. A big requisi- tioning of boats on the part of the Admiralty has caused another shortage of tonnage. The uncer- tainty of the future does not favour forward business and very little has been transacted in. the Tyne and Wear markets during the week. The prompt market at both places too has become markedly weaker. The demand for fuel in Lancashire con- tinues brisk, and prices maintain their firmness. The output in Yorkshire has improved somewhat, but, despite this, very little ‘‘free” coal is on offer. Future business has not been of large dimensions, as owners rely upon the open market. The enquiry for domestic sorts in Derbyshire has slackened, but not so that for industrials. The position of the best and superior secondary qualities does not change at Cardiff ; the freight situation has had a disturbing effect in prices of ordinary sorts. The active state of the Scottish coal trade is unaltered. Kules have been adopted by the Russian Govern- ment to ensure the supply of fuel for military and naval establishments.
