Joint Editors— J. V. ELSDEN, D.Sc. (Lond.), F.G.S. HUBERT GREENWELL, F.S.S., Assoc.M.I.M.E. LONDON, FRIDAY, MARCH 26, 1915. The London coal trade for the past week has been very uncertain. The depot reports are all showing the delivery trade slow and public orders weak, but manufacturing qualities are increasing in demand. Household qualities are all quoted lower, and buying is restricted. - Tonnage supply on the north-east coast now appears to exceed the demand, and consequently rates are declining. The Tyne and Wear prompt markets are exceptionally strong in tone, all classes of coal being very scarce as regards early loading. In Lancashire the demand has slackened somewhat, but the difficulty of meeting requirements remains. Yorkshire markets show no alteration, the enquiry being heavy and the offerings very light;: labour absentees continue to detrimentally affect the output. The Derbyshire coal market is -firm, orders continuing plentiful. The market at Cardiff is perhaps a trifle easier -, Admiralty requirements are increasing, and
