V. ELSDEN, D.Sc. (Lond.), E.G.S. HUBERT GREENWELL, E.S.S., Assoc.M.I.M.E; LONDON, FRIDAY, APRIL 17, 1914. The Secretary of State for the Home Department- gives notice that on April 7, 1914, he made an Order- under section 61 of the Coal Mines Act, 1911, entitled “ The Explosives in Coal Mines Order of the 7th April, 1914,’' the effect of which is to add the following explosives, viz., “ Abelite No. 1,” “Arkite No. 2,” “ Duxite,” “ Super-Curtisite,” “ Super- Excellite No. 2,” and “ Super-Kolax No. 2,” to the permitted explosives named and defined in the First Schedule to the Explosives in Coal Mines Order of September 1, 1913; and to substitute an amended definition of the explosive “ Tutol No. 2” for the definition in that schedule. The London coal trade of the past week has been exceedingly quiet. The holidays have unsettled everything, and the higher prices have checked business. The settlement of the Yorkshire difficulty will soon straighten out matters, but it is feared that as trade is so slow with all the collieries not at work, Portland Cement.—A large area of the resumption will soon lead to the market being JL Limestone and Shales capable of yielding highest class of cement over supplied. Current price lists are still with- ready for development, situated m the Midlands with railway and canal xl 1 facilities.—For particulars, apply to C. F.
