The value during the first three completed months of the present year is 13s. 8’4d. per ton, as compared with 12s. 54d. and Ils. 6’5d. respectively in the corresponding periods of 1912 and 1911. Of the total exports of coal during March, the mean value of the large coal exported was 15s. l’9d. ; through-and-through (unscreened) coal, 12s. 0 6d.; and small coal, Ils. 5’4d. The average value of all kinds of coal exported was 13s. 81d., an increase of 2'2d. as compared with the preceding month. Otherwise divided, it fetched the following values:—Steam coal, 14s. 0'5d.; gas coal, Ils. ll’2d. ; anthracite, 15s. 7’9d.; household coal, 12s. 9'3d.; and other sorts of coal, 12s. 2’4d. The value of the coke exported was 19s. 5 2d. per ton, and of the manufactured fuel 16s. 2’9d. per ton. Last month the quantity of coal, coke and manufactured fuel exported from the United Kingdom amounted to 6,605,215 tons, valued at £4,670,153. This compares with 1,527,508 tons, valued at £1,005,298, in April 1912, and 5,030,570 tons, valued at £2,843,360, in April 1911. The aggregate quantity exported in the first four completed months of the present year was 24,633,615 tons, valued at £17,026,192, as against 14,651,035 tons, valued at £9,175,088, and 20,908,839 tons, valued at £12,009,500, in the corresponding periods respectively of 1912 and 1911. The Scottish Coal Trade Conciliation Board have held several meetings recently with a view to drawing up a new agreement for the regula- tion of the wages of miners in the Scottish coalfields, but without success, and negotiations have terminated for the time being. It is proposed to ask Mr. Burt to withdraw his resignation as general secretary of the Northumberland Miners’ Association. Durham miners’ wages were advanced 6| per cent, on Friday, leaving the wage rate at 56J above the 1879 basis.
