LONDON, FRIDAY, JANUARY 31, 1913. ______________________ The ballot amongst the lodges of the Miners’ Federation of Great Britain on the proposal to secure a five-days working week has been held this week. The result will be declared next week. The executive of the Miners’ Federation of Great Britain have decided to approach the Home Secretary with a view to his receiving a deputation from the Federation on the question of the eviction of workmen from their homes during trade disputes, and in Scotland to ask for an alteration of the law of tenure of houses to the law which existed previous to the passing of Lord Shaw’s Act. At a meeting of the North Staffordshire Insti- tute on Monday, Mr. Robert Nelson read a short paper on electricity for colliery managers. The Scottish Coal Trade Conciliation Board met in Glasgow last Friday, to consider the application for an advance in wages of 25 per cent. A further meeting will be held within a fortnight to consider the matter.
